Short Films from VFS*
From March 2020 to June 2021, I attended Vancouver Film School’s Film Production training program. It was a transformative and educational time of my life, both in creative ways and in personal ones. Below are the first and last short films I directed as a part of my specialization in producing and directing. The first is a shot-for-shot when I was challenged to direct and edit a short that would recreate a short film or scene.
This was our first project in-person after having our first three or so months of classes be completely online due to COVID. As with the entirety of our time at VFS, COVID restrictions both in public and on film sets (which had a lot of new rules and regulations) were in place. Our cohort was originally about 30 students and by the time we went back to in-person, we were down to 14.
The second short film linked below, was essentially my baby throughout most of my time at VFS. I began writing the script for it during those three months of online-only classes and was honored to have been chosen as one of three films that would be produced as Final Projects for our cohort. I was also lucky to be in a position where I could direct it as well. The version you see is one of the “master cuts” and so does still have some mistakes like sound issues, but the story and the important pieces of the whole project are there. I unfortunately lost access to the final edit and it is proving difficult to track down (though I am trying!)
